Modernist Barcelona

SM Hoteles

Our hotels in the Eixample district in Barcelona welcome you to stay in the true home of Catalan Modernism, an artistic movement which was created approximately in 1885 by architect Elies Rogent. You will be a short walk away from some of Modernism’s most emblematic constructions, such as the Arc de Triomf, the streetlight-benches by Pere Falqués on Passeig de Gràcia, Hospital de Sant Pau i la Santa Creu (an architectonic gem made of red brick, steel, sculptures, paintings and mosaics) and Palau de la Música Catalana (considered as one of the supreme landmarks of Catalan Modernism alongside La Pedrera), both designed by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner; and Casa Amatller and Casaramona/CaixaForum, two masterpieces by Josep Puig i Cadafalch.

Gaudí’s Barcelona

SM Hoteles

Antoni Gaudí is the main figure of Catalan architecture and his buildings are the main symbols of the city of Barcelona. Located just a few minutes’ walk away from both SM Hotel Sant Antoni and SM Hotel Teatre Auditori is the majestic Sagrada Familia, one of Gaudí’s most emblematic monuments which is still under construction. Nearby, on Passeig de Gràcia, is Casa Batlló, a building which belongs to Gaudí’s Naturalist period; and Casa Milà, better known as La Pedrera, one of the most imaginative buildings in the history of architecture, considered by many as a sculptural work. In the nearby district of Gràcia you can find Casa Vicens, Gaudí’s first important job; and the famous Park Güell, a public park that reflects the architect’s unique and stunning imagination to perfection.

The beaches of Sant Sebastià and Barceloneta are the oldest and most traditional ones, where you can also find sailing clubs of great importance due to their sea-related activities.
